Welcome to MediShield

This is MediShield, an enthusiastic team of experienced specialists and young biomedical engineers devoted to integrate new innovative ideas into the medical field. MediShield's primary focus is to reduce costs and improve safety during surgery with intuitive new tools and innovative work-flow concepts. The companies projects are supported by STW, several industrial partners, two medical centra and the Delft University of Technology.

We state that innovation is the process that translates knowledge into economic growth and social well-being. As the demand for health care is on the rise, so is the desire for effective innovative medical solutions.

Innovation in surgery

MediShield BV has announced to start the clinical validation of the MSIS trocar system  for laparoscopy,  the most performed type of Minimally Invasive Surgery worldwide.

The principal of this new ''isolator system'' can be applied on different fields in minimally invasive surgery. However, the first isolator systems are developed for standard laparoscopic instruments. The basis of those Isolator systems is a special trocar (MSIS trocar). Different from all other trocar systems, the MSIS trocar does not only  guide instruments through the skin and tissue layers. Moreover, the MSIS trocar creates a small "cleanroom" around the surgical site that protects the instruments and incision against potentially contaminating surfaces and air.  Furthermore, in case of contagious diseases as Hepatitis or HIV, the MSIS trocar System protects the surgeon, staff and operation room against tissue, fluid or particles coming from the patient. This innovative surical trocar was designed in collaboration with surgeons and Biomedical engineers, keeping patient safety in mind.
